Bangladesh can unlock $5 bn apparel exports with plastic recycling

Bangladesh could add $4-5 billion in apparel exports by scaling plastic-to-textile recycling, BUILD has estimated. The push targets lower reliance on imported man-made fibres and alignment with European Union’s circularity requirements. Japan’s Yonex begins renewable solar power use at Niigata factory

Yonex has begun using renewable solar energy at its Niigata Factory Nagaoka through an on-site PPA. The 896.72 kW system is expected to generate about 850,000 kWh annually and cut CO₂ emissions by around 295 tons. The initiative supports Yonex’s Carbon Neutrality goals and expands its use of renewable energy across manufacturing sites.

Albania’s apparel exports rose 36.8 per cent year on year to $193.19 million in January-April 2026, TexPro data showed. Nearshoring demand from European fashion buyers lifted CMT-led orders as brands sought shorter lead times and sourcing flexibility. Imports more than doubled to $156.25 million, indicating higher inward processing for re-export rather than domestic demand.
